Thanks Migellius for finding this. Who knows if this has any validity or not, so we'll chalk it up under the "rumors". Again, this is strictly rumor and Warhammer 40K Online
does not state this as fact!

*DISCLAIMER*
I got this from /tg/ just now. Anonymous might not be the most reliable source for news but they're still a source none the less.
I guess it's just up to you to believe all of this or not.
As for me, I can handle waiting in anticipation for E3 and actually hear it from the horse's mouth.
Maybe some of this might be true, we'll never know until E3 i guess.
...then again, all of this might just be complete troll-foolery.
This is channel /tg/ news helicopter high above the THQ headquarters giving you live feed about the upcoming Warhammer 40k MMO. This is newsreporter anonymous maximus, reporting.
"From THQ private company conference of 20th january concerning E3 presentation plan:
Playable factions:
- Imperium
- Eldar
- Orks
- Chaos
Features:
- Focus both on Meele and Long range Combat
- covering system
- 29 Zones (21 claimable, 8 invadeable)
- Open-World
- PvP around resource gathering and taking strategic points
- center zone features a conquerable stronghold
- No playable Tanks or other Warmachines at release but implemented possibility for expansion
- Tyranids as full fighting PvE-Faction
Lore (being discussed concerning certain faction-plots at the moment but here are the things we determined with Games Workshop so far):
- Game takes place in the southern border-sectors of Segmentum Tempestus
- Factions fight over a destroyed imperial forge world called Tarelis and its hive-city Cerberus X (newly added to the lore!)
- The story of the game will NOT take place in a parallel universe! Just like the Planet Kronus (made by our colleagues at relic) Tarelis will be part of the lore!
- Tyranids will be main-antagonists
- Unfortunately Vigil-games was not allowed to use Relics Gorgutz 'Ead 'Unter as Ork Warlord as he will make a final appearance in the second DoW2 expansion
Costs:
- 49.99$
Monthly fee:
- being discussed but most likely around 13$
Rating:
- targeted Teen/PEGI 16
Fully revealed at E3 2010."

Wow, that sounds good. It is also compatible with the other unconfirmed rumor...although no mention of retinues.

Yeah, I saw this a little while ago on the DoW2 forums. Not sure what to think about it really, on the one hand I'm reticent to believe anything that's not an Official press release (though thanks to my natural cynicism, I rarely believe even those until 've seen the promises implemented), but on the other other hand... it sounds very promising & seems to 'fit' with my current expectations.
Imperium (presumably SMs?), Eldar, Orks & Chaos would have been my choice for a starting roster. They're the big 4 (no offense to followers of the others), an' it's better to start with a few gems & build up, than try to do everything at the start & failing to deliver.
Again, I expected vehicles to take a back-seat until an expansion.
Tyranids as a PvE faction - spot on, especially if they can launch disruptive attacks against whatever player faction is currently dominating.
I like the 'nids as much as the next man, but there's really not the greatest of scope to play an 'individual'...because they don't have any.
1 World to start, keeping it small at release, only to add additional planets in expansions makes sense. Also means you don't have to worry about space combat or travel for the initial release.
Though I do hope they have some sort of Space Hulk missions, even if they're instanced BGs/Dungeons.
Teen rating is a little disappointing, but then with the catastrophe that was AoC, perhaps it's better not to pursue a true Mature setting just yet.
So it all seems to make sense, at least to me, but 'm with Migellius - better to wait for E3 to hear it from the Horse.
Roll on June!

I think retinues were a rumor too. I'm not sure about it though.
Some parts of this are plausible, that's why i thought to post it here.
I think that some of these rumors might even be true when E3 comes, we are free to speculate on the internet.

Migellius, on 24 February 2010 - 08:05 PM, said:
- Unfortunately Vigil-games was not allowed to use Relics Gorgutz 'Ead 'Unter as Ork Warlord as he will make a final appearance in the second DoW2 expansion
Relic was bought out by THQ in 2004 and Vigil games is also owned by THQ...
I don't think a company should have issues with copyrights they obviously own

I was reading that as they just wanted to keep the option open to write up separate stories without everything in DOW needing to be consistent. For the same reason maybe Blood Ravens wont make an appearance in the MMO>
Hmm, nothing is confirmed. I was just wondering If they let stuff like this get leaked every now and again...just to use the internet as a bit of a sounding board and see what people say. Then they can change their ideas if needed without needing to explain as it was"... just a rumor and was never based on any source at Vigil/THQ."
I'm a bit disappointed (if it's true) that SM AND IG aren't included. But in retrospect, that was always probably pretty unlikely.
Ideally the starting factions would Ultramarines, Imperial Guard, Imperial Fists, Adeptus Mechanicus, Black Templars, Ordo Hereticus, Crimson Fists, Silver Skulls, Ordo Xenos, Iron Hands, Red Scorpians, Blood...Angels Vermillion, Angels of Redemtion, Angels of...Fleshtearers and the Sons of Dorn. Then maybe in the expansion they could think about some of those "others".
Like The Revilers, Salamanders...

Hrm if its true then it has a possibility to be good. The focus seems to be on PvP and capturing regions, can only hope they look at how Mythic screwed up PvP wise (but the resource gathering tied into it might make it work better). Still want to see if its gonna be point and click like so many other MMO's or something better.
As for the absence of Gorgutz, probably not to do with licensing but more what Relic have planned for him in the DoW2 expansion (they even mention Relic as "Our colleagues" a line above).
If even some is true though....the wait for E3 is even longer

I think that means Our friend Gorgutz is going be dieing in Dow2 Chaos rising, thats why they can't use him in the mmo, not because of a copyright issue..

Sounds really good to me so far (if it's true). Open World is a deal breaker for me. If it were them-parky like WoW or didn't have any zones that could change hands then I would probably not make it my main MMO.
One of the draws of say EVE or WAR is that there is meaningful PVP (ie zone captures) which leads to realm pride. Any PVP that is inconsequential to the universe I am immersing myself in just doesn't do it for me. I think it would be cool to have all sorts of different bases around the planet, with each side having their impenetrable main base (like a capital city of sorts), with forwarding operating bases spread across the surface.
In terms of just one planet, I also feel it's good to start off this way. In the future if they do add new planets, I feel like they could add a lot of roleplaying into it. For example, they have planets A, B and C. One day the empire discovers and important relic on the surface, thus redirecting much of its forces to the planet, allowing for more types of vehicles, weapons, etc to be present there. When a player arrives on the planet, all the hustle and bustle of a full fledged war can be seen and felt. However, on planet C, since the imperial forces are focused elsewhere, the base a player lands in is very barebones and not much is available in terms of weapons, etc.
Ok, I am done rambling for now!

I think the problem lies more with Lore than copyrights.
With both games effectively being cannon and set in different places, it'd be difficult to come up with a reason for Gorgutz to be in two places at once?
Either that, or it's a case of the MMO being set in a different time period. Perhaps Gorgutz dies in DoW2, or maybe the game is set before he's... I was going to say born, but the very nature of the Orks reproductive cycle eludes me, I'm not so hot on their Lore. Spore or something isn't it?
Edit - Beaten to it by several people. Ha!

There are always Expansions we can look forward to.
But ideally, aye, i do agree with you Mercii.
The option of customizing your space marine color scheme would be out of the question.
First and foremost, the twenty 1st Founding chapters first as choices for SMs and CSMs.
Then the other successor chapters follow in the expansions as you said.
I'd be part of the Imperial Fists then.

Oh well looks like I'm Orks once more :|
All roumers, I'll wait till E3 before I start getting excited.
From what I can see there is potential for the WAR foul up that is FvF PvP in that you could end up with Chaos and Orks fighting Imperium and Eldar, hopefully not and we have a 4 way fight on our hands.
Along with the Tyranids I'd love to see the Necrons work their way in there as a PvE controlling factor as well (Gotta love the Necron's)

Cool story bro. We could as well link Jo's 40k MMO comics.
If an infinite number of rednecks, in an infinite number of pickup trucks, fired an infinite number of shotgun shells at an infinite number of road signs, they would eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare in braille.

@mercii.
I am confused. You said that you are dissapointed that SM (space marines - adeptus astartes) and the IG (imperial guard) would not be included.
The very FIRST faction listed says "IMPERIUM" and i looked up the listing of military branches for the "Imperium of man" that is listed on the warhammer40K wikipedia and these are listed.
Imperial Guard
Imperial Navy
Adeptus Astartes
Collegia Titanica
Adepta Sororitas
Am i overlooking something obvious ?

Well, I mostly ment that drawfag Jopereira. He once drew comic where level 1 Space Marines grind Cultists, and other MMO clichés.
I just meant that that those rumors are probably as real as cultistfaggotry.

@Contavius Er....I guess the point I was trying to make was that I love all the different Imperial characters.
If there is only 1 Imperial Faction, we could guess there will be between 3 and at most 6(?) classes in that faction and its unlikely that the full range of both Spacemarine AND Imperial Guard types I'd like to see would be included.
Also, I was kind of hoping Spacemarine and Guard factions would be able to fight each other and have very separate distinct flavours. I guess theoretically the five different Militant Groups you listed there COULD be the different Imperial character classes and within those classes there could be enough freedom to make any kind of character you like...but that seems unlikely.

@Contavius: I hink that mercii was hoping for 2 distinct factions, IG and SM and not a unique one like mentioned in the rumors.
According to this, the TAU are not in the game...

Oh, well, I was quite expecting that.
I must say this seems good, apart from the possible teen rating but this might be better to attract a lot of players.
